From its beautiful natural environment by the coast to its historic qualities, Santa Cruz is an inspirational place.
Of importance to me in this series was to capture Santa Cruz in a timeless yet old quality. Blending aspects from
the past
and mixing it with elements from the present, making it not very obvious to the viewer when the work
might have been painted.
Works by Monet, Edward Hopper, and Arthur Mathews have had great influence in
my paintings. Merging aspects of Impressionism,
California Tonalism and Americana, my paintings depict
Santa Cruz architecture without much human activity.
Buildings have personalities. In capturing those personalities
I see my paintings as architectural portraits.
